Anusara® Yoga is one of the most spiritually inspiring, therapeutically effective, and physically transformative styles of hatha yoga. Anusara means "flowing with Grace." Developed by John Friend, it is a uniquely integrated approach to yoga in which the art of the human spirit powerfully blends with the science of biomechanics. Anusara Yoga integrates the celebration of the heart, Universal Principles of Alignment™, and balanced energetic action in the performance of asana. It taps into the freedom, fullness and beauty of your mind, body and spirit.

Updated: 10-16-2009
The Kripalu tradition emphasizes slowing down and connecting movement with breath to awaken and unite energy in the body, mind, and spirit. Honoring each individual’s body and limits, modifications to postures and stretches are integrated to create safety and strengthening. This Sunday evening practice will be a gentle, supportive, and grounding way to prepare for the week ahead and shed any of “yesterday’s” baggage. Each class begins with a centering, and then gradually moves into gentle warm-ups that stretch and prepare the entire body for yoga postures (asanas) and the deeper stretching that follows. Class will close with a deep relaxation (savasana) to restore the body’s energy and absorb the benefits of the practice. Students of all fitness levels and experience are welcome.

Restorative Yoga is a non-active, therapeutic style of yoga, that can offer a powerful antidote to stress. Through the implementation of props used to fully support the body, participants may deeply release into relaxation. This class will offer you tools that you can use both in class and on your own, to combat stress and fine-tune the nervous system by eliciting the relaxation response, reducing anxiety in the physical body, increasing your sense of calm, and stimulating restful sleep. OFFERED THE FIRST SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH.

Hara Yoga
Updated: 08-29-2009
Hara is a Japanese word that refers to the practice of discovering the root of one’s “deeper possibility and power.” Hara can be translated as “belly” but it is much more than that. Hara is also the process of discovering one’s center, both physical and psychological; a strong and awake core in the body as well as a more stable mind; allowing one to live life with greater joy and confidence. In this slow-flow, Hatha yoga class, we will investigate Hara in every sense through an approach to postures and breathing exercises that will help students experience a strong, stable but not rigid center.
