Yin yoga targets connective tissue, specifically ligaments and tendons in the joints and spine. Over time, the practice can lengthen these tissues, increasing range of motion. To convey the role that connective tissue plays in determining range of motion, muscles account for about forty percent of the resistance against the body's flexibility, while connective tissue accounts for about fifty percent. Yin asanas are almost entirely passive and do not usually include what would usually be classified as standing asanas or balance poses. In this class we'll open up the deep, dense, connective tissues and joints of the body, which are not often reached in an active yang yoga class. Each class will offer a series of poses held for a considerable length of time to allow for a more complete release. All levels welcome.

We have several classes each day. All-levels (except for Saturday) - beginners welcome at all classes.
Mondays and Wednesdays: 7am, 10:30am, 5:30pm, 7pm (90 mins)
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays: 10:30am, 5:30pm, 7pm (90 mins)
Saturday: 9am Beginners (60 mins), 10:30am (90 mins)
Sundays: 10:30pm, 4pm (90 mins)
Our system is classical, traditional yoga. A typical class consists of pranayama, surya namaskar, and 12 basic postures(asanas). The class is meditative and emphasis is on holding postures still, breath control, with relaxation in between asanas. Classes are 90 minutes, beginners 60 minutes.

Created out of the Tantric traditions of India’s medieval ages, Hatha Yoga has come to America to fuse with other spiritual traditions and to subsequently fragment into particular styles such as Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara, Jivamukti, and Vini.
