How much does shantibird cost?

Shantibird is free for everyone. You can search our entire database and teachers can create their profile and list their classes for free.

Are the classes up-to-date?

Each class is date stamped with the last date the responsible teacher edited it. If it has been a while, it might be a good idea to confirm with the teacher.

Can you list my classes for me?

We at Shantibird are happy to help you and walk you through all the steps, but each teacher must maintain their own profile and class list for Shantibird to work. There are far too many yoga teachers for us to keep the data current.

How are the distances calculated?

Google Maps calculates the distance from the address the user inputs to the class location inputted by the instructor. If the user inputs only a zip code then Google uses the center of the zip code. If you are curious about where Google is putting your zip code, you can test it by entering your zip code into the search field of maps.google.com.

Can I list my whole studio?

We are working on a way for studios to have a separate kind of Shantibird account where they will be able to link to Shantibird instructors and list studio events and classes. For now, many Studio owners are using teacher accounts and listing all the studio classes there. We would like studio owners to encourage their teachers to take repsonsibility for their class lists on Shantibird.

What does Shantibird mean?

Shanti means peace in Hindi. Shantibird's mission is to promote the spread of yoga far and wide. If that can bring a little more peace into the world, then all the better.

Why do I have to list classes? Why can't I just create a profile?

Teachers can create a profile and use the direct link to its URL. But if there are no classes listed on that profile then there will be nothing in the database to find when the location is searched. The Shantibird search searches through the locations of listed classes, not users.

Why search classes, why not teachers and studios?

We want Shantibird to be a useful tool to help yoga students find a class where and when they want one. Students shouldn't have to know about all the local studios and other yoga venues to find the right class, and they shouldn't have to check multiple websites to find a class at the right time. Our search saves students from looking up each studio to check the individual schedules. Eventually we plan to add a search for teachers, studios, and keywords in general.
